Paul Batson, O.D. Center Director VisionAmerica of Birmingham Like we've all seen many times, I had a patient a few weeks ago that was on three glaucoma medications, yet I was still struggling to keep things under control. Her visual fields and OCT's were progressing despite my best attempts. She had previously undergone a laser trabeculoplasty with minimal success and really needed that next level of treatment. It was only about five or six years ago that our next option was trabeculectomy. Fortunately, we now have a variety of other options as part of our minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) toolbox. I thought it would be good to share a few thoughts on some of the procedures we have available and consider them for some of these patients who need additional treatment. iStent Inject

Conclusion Having multiple treatment options similar to the ones mentioned here is a great advantage for patients. Just as no one medication fits every patient, no one surgical procedure fits every patient and having multiple procedures in your toolbox is critical. We're excited that our own, Dr. Karen Shelton, offers all of these options for your patients. If you have any questions about a specific device or patient, please feel free to reach out!
