As treatment options expand, we're excited to offer new technology to your patients. Our latest addition to the glaucoma treatment tool box is the CyPass Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). We thought this would be a good time to review our treatment options for your patients.
Our goal is not to take over your glaucoma patients but, instead, to walk alongside you and co-manage these patients where needed. Let us know how we can help! CyPass Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery We know that approximately 20% of patients undergoing cataract surgeries each year also have glaucoma. We also know that the financial burden of medications can be very challenging for many patients. Having a minimally invasive option that can be performed at the time of cataract surgery that can reduce IOP and medications is a great addition to the glaucoma toolbox.
Offering his thoughts on MIGS, Dr. Paul Batson of VisionAmerica stated, "We're excited to be able to offer multiple options for our referring doctors and their patients. Our goal has always been to support them where needed and this helps to fill that mission. "One of the paradigm shifts that will need to occur with new technology like MIGS is learning to intervene at an earlier phase in the disease process. With increasing cost of medications, trabeculoplasty and MIGS offer great options for these patients to try to assist in better control with fewer medications. There is still a place for more advanced procedures like trabeculectomy or tube shunts, but we will hopefully see fewer and fewer required," said Batson.
