10/17/2017 0 Comments CYPASS: A Case StudyA 79-year-old female was referred for a cataract evaluation. Her ocular history also included moderate glaucoma and she was using Cosopt and latanoprost. Her preoperative IOP's measured OD 14 and OS 15. She was essentially on 3 medications with decent IOP control but was also facing cataract surgery. As a result, she was a very good candidate for CyPass. Dr. Albright performed the procedure at the time of her cataract surgery.
One month later, the patient reported back for her postoperative checkup. The patient's unmedicated IOP measured OD 7 and OS 9. Obviously a great initial response. It is always exciting when we can offer your patients new options to treat their conditions. On Thursday, July 17th, we sent out an email which covered the glaucoma options offered at VisionAmerica. (Click here to read the post.) One of the options discussed in the email was CyPass Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). CyPass is a minimally invasive, more cost efficient option specifically for patients who suffer from both cataracts and glaucoma. Procedures like CyPass are an increasingly popular option for glaucoma patients undergoing cataract surgery. As in the case above, one of the greatest benefits patients can experience is the reduction of glaucoma medications required. We're excited to offer this option for your patients. As a reminder, if you have patients that you think may be interested in a MIGS procedure, please be sure to include copies of your visual fields and OCT's with your referral notes.
